Our ethos
Dafferns was founded in 1896 by Thomas Mason Daffern, who was also one of the founders of The Coventry Building Society. The firm became a partnership, Daffern & Co in the 1930s and moved to LLP status in July 2007.We recognise that our credibility relies on being at all times responsive to our clients and in providing practical common sense advice in an increasingly complex commercial environment.
Our clients, a large proportion of whom have been with us for many years, see us as a genuine partner in their business development. Our People
Andrew JonesAndrew is the firm's senior partner and is a Personal and Family Tax specialist. He heads up the Coventry Tax department, managing a substantial personal tax portfolio and acting for over 800 individuals and businesses.
He provides specialist tax advice on income tax, capital gains tax, Paye and Nic, Inland Revenue enquiries and investigations and tax-based financial planning with particular expertise in inheritance tax (IHT), estate and trust planning. He first joined Dafferns in 1977, having qualified the same year. In 1981 he moved on to the tax department of one of the national firms, before rejoining Dafferns in 1987 as a Specialist Tax Partner.
Richard Miller
Richard qualified in 1988 with PriceWaterhouse and joined Dafferns in 1992 as a Partner. He specialises in business strategy advice, SME corporate reporting, audit and accountancy and new business start-ups and splits his time between Dafferns in Coventry where he heads up the Audit and Corporate Reporting team and ReSource Accounting Care, our outsourced accounting company in Leamington.
Richard has extensive knowledge of a number of accounting software packages, helping many clients tailor systems and reports to their particular needs. These include Sage Line 50 and the Iris software powered Virtual Accounts Office, a web enabled accounting suite which allows clients secure remote on line access to their own unique financial system from anywhere in the world. Recently, Richard was instrumental in leading the implementation of an Iris Iris Exchequer accounting system for a £20million turnover client of our outsourcing arm ReSource Accounting Care.
In 2007 Richard was named as Financial Professional of the Year in the FirstPro industry awards.
Martin Gibbs
Martin is the firm's Managing Partner and splits his time between the Leamington and Coventry offices. After first joining Dafferns in 1982 and qualifying in 1988, Martin spent ten years with a leading Oxfordshire firm before returning to Dafferns as a Partner in 1999.
Martin leads the Audit and Corporate Reporting team at the Leamington Spa office specialising in all aspects of SME corporate reporting, particularly for UK subsidiaries of overseas groups, charities, clients in the creative and marketing sector and IR35 companies. Martin also has extensive corporate finance experience, including new business start-ups, business plans, MBOs, buying, selling and restructuring businesses, including LLPs.
Brian Jukes Brian is a Corporate Tax specialist and leads both the Leamington Tax department and Small Business Accounts team. He has extensive experience of buying, selling and restructuring businesses, property tax planning, international and particularly US tax, tax reporting to overseas parents, VAT and holistic tax planning for business owners.
Having qualified with Dafferns in 1993 , Brian moved to Ernst & Young in 1995 to specialise in corporate tax. He then spent three years with a chemicals manufacturer in Coventry, working as their in-house tax specialist and was responsible for the tax affairs of all members of the European group (including the UK, France and Germany) as well as reporting to the Fortune 500 listed US parent company. Brian returned to Dafferns in 2000 and was appointed a Partner at the start of 2003.
Geoffrey Cox
Geoffrey joined Dafferns in 1995 as a graduate trainee. He was appointed as a partner in July 2005 and is a vital part of the audit, accounts and corporate reporting team in Coventry, with particular experience of substantial owner managed businesses and groups. Geoffrey also assists clients with his specialist knowledge in the audit of ESF, ERDF and SFIE (Selective Finance for Investment in England) grants.
Jeremy Richards
Jeremy has been a leading member of the audit and corporate reporting team of Dafferns for the last few years, and was promoted to audit and accounts partner in July 2006. He deals with a growing portfolio of limited company clients, ranging from owner managed businesses of all sizes to substantial subsidiaries of overseas parent companies.
